RageLabPlus

Picture
RAGELabPlus is a multilateral Grundtvig project funded by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme. This project aims to create a topical methodology for educators, school counsellors, lecturers and other experts working with heterogeneous groups of young adults.

The project team consists of organisations active in adult education, vocational education, counselling, scientific research, and adventure education. The main objective of this project is to develop an innovative methodology to provide the target group of educators the necessary tools which would enable their learners to understand their aggression and violence better. To map their feelings and experience, analyse them and create their own alternative behaviour patterns.

What does the methodology look like?

The product of the RageLabPlus project consists of an experimental laboratory and a structured handbook for educators and counsellors.
This methodology will enable clear orientation, excellent monitoring, consistent reflection and practical transfer to everyday life.

RageLab – the interactive laboratory of prevention against aggressive behaviour consists of three key parts:

  • VIRTUAL PHASE: The participants will try different variants of their behaviour and emotions in a virtual environment.
  • PHYSICAL PHASE: This phase includes behaviour, real physical activity with real people in a gym. The data from neuro-feedback will make it possible to make comparisons with the results of the virtual phase.
  • REALISTIC PHASE: This phase is focused on putting the knowledge from the virtual and physical phases into practice in real life. The participants will select useful knowledge from the preceding phases and suggest a way to transfer them to reality. This phase includes real testing using the life action role play (LARP) method.

The project procedure

The first version of the aggression monitoring and reflection laboratory was created in 2010. All of the three phases were tested in Austria, Czech republic, Italy and Finland  and adapted based on the feedback received. As the laboratory guide, the project team developed a handbook which will enable educators and counsellors create and use the laboratory in their own environments. Courses for educators and counsellors were organized in summer and autumn 2011 which will enable experts understand the basic principles and the transfer into everyday practice in all participating countries. At the end of the project, all products and activities were introduced at an international conference in Naples. This event was also an opportunity for discussion, exchange contacts and methods of prevention against aggression and violence in adolescents and young adults. The participants also had the opportunity to test some of the activities of the experimental laboratory.
