FINLICO
FINANCIAL
LITERACY
Financial literacy is the ability to understand money matters and to have one's funds "under control". It also means having the skills to manage credit and debt reasonably and to make sound financial decisions. www.financial-literacy.eu Partners: Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Italy The objective of the FinLiCo project is to create financial literacy educational modules for adults. A team of educational institutions from seven European countries focuses the design of the project on increasing the financial literacy course attraction and thus also the motivation both among lecturers and among the target group. A whole range of products to improve financial literacy already exists both in the Czech Republic and abroad. There are, however, several obstacles that prevent them from being put to practices. Such obstacles include lack of information regarding the existence of such programmes, various motivation of lecturers, but particularly written handbooks which are currently – from the didactic point of view – already out of date and can hardly influence the target group in the context of financial decision-making. The development of the FinLiCo educational curriculum will result in the creation of web-based platform called "Worth all the money" where the financial literacy educational modules will be presented in a way that is acceptable and comprehensible to the target group. The main tools for the presentation of financial literacy will be:
The project builds on maximum closeness to the needs and language of the target group for which it has been created. The authors have avoided intellectual and academic forms of educational materials such as textbooks, written manuals, PowerPoint presentations or similar which are irrelevant for the financially illiterate. All videos will be included in the platform over YouTube. This will enable the videos to be watched directly on YouTube and to be shared over social networks. These channels are highly suitable, considering the target group characteristics. As the Czech partner of the project, Learning4Life can offer expertise in modern educational methodology and in including new media and functional elements of educational psychology. The project focuses on two main target groups: career counsellors working at Employment Offices and their short-term and long-term clients with limited financial literacy are the primary group. A whole range of modules to be developed under FinLiCa will be very useful for the members of this target group. The secondary target group includes all education providers for adults, e.g. retraining and language courses providers. These will benefit from the modular structure of the platform as it will enable them to select modules relevant for them and their topics. www.financial-literacy.eu Please feel free to contact us for more information on office(at)learning4life.eu |
